Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as host of the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times in journalism, among them an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with President Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate issues such as the Iran Contra scandal.
